EVENT VENUE - ONLINE

Honoring our Ancestors Through Storytelling and Painting.

Come and be a part of this exciting virtual event that encompasses storytelling, local history and painting a picture of your own Día de los Muertos Altar.

Join Beatrice Zamora, author of “The Spirit of Chicano Park/El espíritu del Parque Chicano” and Maira Meza, illustrator, for a fun and engaging evening of culture and art.

Listen to the story of Bettie and Bonky, two new residents to Logan Heights, who learn about the important history of the founding of a national landmark, Chicano Park. The story brings the murals and the community to the forefront with the message of community voice and action matter. Also highlighted will be some of the most prominent community leaders who have contributed to the park, especially those people who have now passed on to the land of Mictlan (spirit world). As long as we remember them and their contributions, their spirits remain vivid and nearby.

The workshop culminates with a one-hour hands-on painting class where you will create your own Día de los Muertos altar picture. The painting class led by Maira Meza, an experienced art teacher and community artist.
