¿Por qué es importante para tu familia esta tradición? Why is this tradition important to your family?
Porque es una manera de poder seguir recordando a nuestros seres queridos que ya no están con nosotros. * Because it is a way to continue remembering our loved ones who are no longer with us.
¿Cuántos años llevan creando altares de muertos? How many years have you been creating altar for the dead?
Yo en particular llevo como 10 años. Y es el segundo año que lo hago por medio de Our Lady’s School. * I in particular have been around for 10 years. And it is the second year that I do it through Our Lady’s School.
¿A quién se está conmemorando en este altar, y por qué? Who are you commemorating this year, and why?
A nuestro padrecito del Barrio, el Padre Brown. Porque fue una parte muy importante para el barrio y nuestra escuela. * To our little father from El Barrio, Father Brown. Because it was a very important part for the neighborhood and our school.
¿Qué es lo que no puede faltar? What cannot be missing in an altar?
No puede faltar la foto de la persona, el papel picado, las cosas que le gustaban a la persona, flores, velas, la comida y su agua. * You can not miss the photo of the person, the confetti, the things that the person liked, flowers, candles, food and water.
¿Cómo lograr que esta tradición siga de generación en generación? How can this tradition continue from generation to generation?
Enseñando a nuestros hijos la importancia y lo bonito de estas tradición y que aprecien toda la hermosa cultura que tenemos para que ellos sigan con ella. * Teaching our children the importance and beauty of these traditions and that they appreciate all the beautiful culture that we have so that they can continue with it.
¿Cómo te gustaría que te recordaran a tí? How would you like others to remember you?
Pues trato siempre de ser buena persona y ayudar en lo que puedo, para que al menos me recuerden con un poco de cariño y no hablen mal de mi. :) * Well, I always try to be a good person and help as much as I can, so that at least they remember me with a little affection and do not speak ill of me. :)
¿Quién le inculcó la tradición de poner un altar? Who instilled in you the tradition of setting up an altar?
Con mi mamá siempre hacíamos algo muy pequeño. Poner la foto y una velas y flores, pero no fue hasta que me case, que mi marido sí seguía mucho esta tradición y decidí también seguirlo con esto. * With my mom we always did something very small. Put the photo and a candle and flowers, but it was not until I got married that my husband did follow this tradition a lot and I decided to follow him with this as well.
¿De qué estado de México son tus raíces? What state of Mexico are your roots from?
Mi mamá es de Michoacán y mi papá de Nayarit, yo soy nacida en Nayarit, y criada en B.C. * My mom is from Michoacán and my dad from Nayarit, I am born in Nayarit, and raised in B.C.
¿Qué sentimientos te provocan poner este altar? What feelings does putting this altar evoke in you?
Me da mucho gusto hacerlo porque se que el Padrecito ayudaba mucho a la gente y especialmente a nuestros niños de la escuela. * I am very happy to do it because I know that Father Brown helped people a lot and especially our children at school.
¿Quisieras agregar algo más? Would you like to add something else?
Que no dejen perder estas tradiciones, tenemos la fortuna de contar con una cultura y tradiciones muy hermosas. Tenemos que inculcarle a nuestros hijos todo esto, pero que no se pierda esto tan hermoso. * Do not let these traditions lose, we are fortunate to have a very beautiful culture and traditions. We have to instill in our children all this, but do not miss this beautiful thing.
